GOA -A Dream Land

GOA is the smallest state of the republic of India. It lies on the west coast of India.  The climate is tropical in June to September monsoon, when rainfall is approximately 400 cm. For the rest of the year humidity is surprisingly low and average daily temperature is 27°C (85°F). The coolest months are November to February when night temperatures can fall to 20°C (70°F) and a pull-over may be worn.Long,sandy beaches,fringed with coconut palms,male it a tropical paradise for visitors.Other tourists attractions are the colonial buildings from the 1500's,built when Goa was the headquarters of portugal's Asian empire.

Old Goa, Once the major city,is half-hidden in jungle.Its population was severely affected by plague in the 1600's,and a new city was built at panaji (New Goa).The main cities now are panaji,Margao,Vasco da Gama,Mapusa,and ponda.Panaji,the capital,contains the main goverment Buildings.Margao is Goa's biggest commercial center.
Goa has a population density of 316 people per square kilometre.The costal area is crowded.Fewer people live in inland.The majority of Goans are Hindus.However,there is also a very strong Christian community. Goa has become a center of Roman catholicism in india.Most people living on the costal area are Christians.Many have portuguese names and are partly of Portuguese descent.
The official language of the State is Konkani.Other, common languages are English,Hindi and Marathi.People have left the crowded coastal area .Many people from Goa work in the Middle East  and East Africa .Goa has high standard of education and Goans readily find work overseas in hotels or as stewards on Cruise ships.Goa has two elected members in the lok sabha and one nominated member in rajya sabha.
